Chris: Purdah is a pre-election period in the UK during which public sector offices must maintain political impartiality and avoid announcing new policies or anything controversial that may affect the forthcoming election. In this song I sort of repositioned purdah as an old wild west outpost where all the widely known truths must remain unspoken. A nervous town where trembling hands hover over the holstered guns of politically controversial statements.
